Don’t Let Dyslexia Get You Down

Do you have a student with dyslexia? Join the club. Quite an impressive club, in fact: Entertainers: Jay Leno, Steven Spielberg, and Walt Disney Artists: Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol Athletes: Muhammad Ali, Magic Johnson, and Nolan Ryan Entrepreneurs: Henry Ford, Charles Schwab, and Ted Turner Scientists: Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, and Albert Einstein Presidents: Woodrow Wilson, Andrew Jackson, and George Washington Wikipedia has an entire page dedicated to famous people thought to have dyslexia, and dyslexia.com has a list of dyslexics categorized by profession. The point is obvious: Dyslexia should never get in the way of a child’s potential. In fact, IEW’s founder has a son, Christopher, who has—and has largely overcome— dyslexia. If you are discovering dyslexia in your child, you may find these three resources helpful: You can read about Andrew Pudewa’s insight on the matter in his article â€Å"Thoughts on Dyslexia.† Christopher’s sister, Genevieve, reflects on dyslexia from the perspective of a sibling in â€Å"Hope for Your Struggling Learner.† Check out our page of resources for special needs here. We hope these lists and articles encourage you and your dyslexic student. With honest effort, we could include IEW alumni on the list of accomplished dyslexic people.
